EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ILLUSTRATION
The Spring 2019 issue of Terra Magazine had a story on Emotional Intelligence, which I designed and illustrated. The theme of the story touched on the emotional instability that some people have, and being able to recognize those emotions in others. One of the stories that was told in the article was about a young boy that was unable to share his emotions, which resulted in emotional outbursts. This gave the feeling of an explosion, which I thought would best be represented with watercolor paint bleeding out into the next page. The art is for the most part monoweight, and uses an almost contour-like style, overlaid onto the watercolor which represents the emotion of the child.
The second spread also features an illustration that I created, which represents Interpersonal Sensitivity. This literally is a contour, showing profiles and expressions of people, all connected with one line. This is overlaying another watercolor paint blot, which uses color to show the varying degrees of emotion.
