I love Studio Ghibli's movies and the worlds created by Hayao Miyazaki, and "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" is one of my absolute favorites. As much as I see amigurumi of Totoro and Jiji, I don't see much love for the Ohmu, the enormous arthropods! (I wonder why? Creepy bugs, anyone? 🐞) So I created my own pattern, and made my own crochet stuffed animal. The pattern is available at my Etsy, if anyone else is interested in making one!
Something that really helped in my creation of the pattern was using a site called CrochetPARADE, which lets you put in the pattern and it will visualize it for you in 3D. It basically converts the pattern text into a 3D model! It took a lot of trial and error but I eventually got the shell that I wanted.
The trick was translating the keywords into ones that I understood. For example, the site uses "sc2tog" to mean a decrease using single crochets. "Hdc2inc" means an increase using half-double crochets. I really had to dig into the Manual that explains the software and codes to use.
It helped that I've had a basic introduction to coding, as the program is based on a coding interface - so the user has to have a VERY specific set of skills to be able to use it. (I don't see Grandma using this tool...) But it was an immense help for me, and I would definitely use it again!

A big thanks to the creator of Crochet parade (Svetlin Tassev), what an awesome idea!
My first iteration looked a little less clean than the final - I didn't own any dark green yarn at the time so I was using what I had available, which was a multicolored blue/green that I thought made it look metallic. I crocheted the eyes at the time, and decided I didn't like how it looked.

For the final version I painted 14 safety eyes blue and coated them in UV resin for protection.

Below are a couple more views of the finished Ohmu, hope you like it!
