HUMAN-ROBOT INTERACTIONS ANIMATION

In the fall of 2024, Oregon State Productions was in the process of creating a video to upload on Youtube on the subject of robotic support to adult care. They wanted some motion graphics to accompany the video, to show a robot helping people. As a result, I created 3 scenes in Adobe Animate featuring a robotic dog playing with a group of individuals, a robot being controlled via a controller, and a robot bringing a human a glass of water.

I first presented a storyboard indicating the style that I intended to use in the animation, and once that was approved I began animating in Adobe Animate. Each scene was 5-10 seconds long, and was animated in 4k, 60fps to match the footage that the editors were using. For the final footage, the editor added a CRT effect to match other scenes in the video, and it was praised as a great addition to the video.

The first scene depicts a robot bringing a human a glass of water. The robot in the real world doesn't have legs, so it was requested that the illustrated robot have wheels or 'slide' into frame. I created the design of this robot, with inspiration from 'Wall-E' to give it a friendly appearance. For highlights, I used Oregon State's orange to help it stand out.

The second scene needed to depict a pair of hands operating a controller, with their inputs also moving the robot. For this scene I used a front-on view of the robot from the first scene to show the button presses of the controller making the robot move in response.

The final scene needed to show a group of people playing with a pet robot, and everyone needed to look involved. At first I only included two people, and it was requested to include an elderly person sitting straight-on. With the addition of this person, I placed a toy basket next to her and had her clap so that it was clear she was involved like the other two.

Below is the finished video, with the infographics that I created beginning at 0:50.
